Across northern Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan are hundreds of small "Forest Service Lakes" chock full of largemouth bass and plenty of natural splendor. These lakes are perfect for small watercraft and many are only accessible with a small boat like the Hobie Pro Angler. Ron Hustvedt and the WriteOutdoors.com Podcast ventures to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan for some fantastic bass fishing and some magnificent viewing of deer, ducks and loons.

  • Oh yeah, wear ankle supportive boots in case you need to walk during low water months!

  • +1 on a great Northwoods outdoor video!

I kayaked the Namakagon from Hayward, WI to the St. Croix in Danbury, WI on a Hobie A.I.

Leave the Mirage Drive in the car if you're going to be exploring the Nam where you'll be better suited to use the paddles and an eVolve trolling motor amidship. The steering rudder is essential to keeping the kayak pointed straight in deeper water but everything must be stowed up to keep from abuse or getting busted in the shallows and rapids.
