Wow,people, calling a therapist, thanks for making everyone feel even MORE like an outcast.PEOPLE DON'T COMMIT SUICIDE BECAUSE THEY WANT TO DIE,THEY JUST WANT THE UNBEARABLE PAIN TO STOP.ASK ONE AND TELL ME IF THEY AGREE WITH YOU.

Dr. Joiner attended the conference symposium on Depression and Suicide in the Fire Service held in Baltimore Md. on July 11th and 12th. I was invited to attend representing North American Firefighter Veteran Network. After the conference and return home our organization has given him the title of "Amicus" for his extensive leading edge work in suicide understanding and prevention. Google NAFFVN for information on sucide prevention in the american fire service. S. Pennington Exeuctive Director

Let's do some powerful educating for everyone and make people aware that people "DIE" by suicide. We commit murder, rape, incest, and arson. Why do we want to include our loved ones in such a negative laundry list? People who "DIE" by suicde have brain chemistry problems when it firsts allows them to think about taking their life plus end up doing it. Please--spread this message to help others support folks who have lost someone to this dreaded disease.

@crimsonregret000 What Dr. Joiner is saying is that a person who commits self-harm is more LIKELY to commit suicide than a person who does not commit self-harm. It doesn't mean that they will absolutely commit suicide. I went to a suicide prevention conference 2 weeks ago where he spoke and I really liked his presentation. He talked about a lot of important information that sometimes we forget about when it comes to suicide.
People commit suicide because they want to die because of life itself. They want to end a so called LIFE because when you're suffering from everything around you and not happy that's NOT a life! You're actually living in a death. If you're totally poor and have no money and your parent dies, you have no spouse or significant other who truly loves you, you're trying to find a job to no avail, the list of negativities go on and on you mean to tell me THAT'S LIVING and I should continue to live?

@EmeraldJade66 I completely understand how you feel because I am suicidal myself. Alot of people are tremdously ignorant about suicidal people and why ppl comit suicide. They think it is a selfish thing to do but they fail to realize that when someone is in that much pain whether it is physical or emotional, it is a natural HUMAN response to end the pain in all ways possible. most ppl do not comit suicide on a whim they do it after years and YEARS of trying to deal with it.
