The voice-over narration, to me at least, is insanely funny. And I enjoy this movie, don't get me wrong. The voice-over doesn't at all do it justice, and is just plain silly/funny. Anyone else agree?

Haven't seen La Notte (waiting for a Criterion release), but the other two are excellent. My favorite's L'avventura, which is a perfect film. It mixes symbolism, art, visuals, and emotions to create a masterpiece. L'eclisse is similar, but it's so symbolic and artsy that it sometimes forgets to deliver the emotions aspect.

I wouldn't exactly use the word "excitement" to describe this movie New York Times. It's anything but "exciting." Although, it is probably my number one favorite movie.
