Along with the proclamation of the Gospel, the Church has always promoted an integral education of the person through the Catholic School system. In the last 20 years, the number of Catholic universities on the African continent has multiplied. Cardinal Zenon Grocholewski, Prefect of the Congregation for Catholic Education, assures that the Catholic schools are a reference point for non-Catholics as well.Catholic Education in Africa has carried out a very significant role, not just in the field of evangelization, but also in the continents cultural and social advancement. In almost every country the Catholic schools are growing; they are valued and have a good number of students who are not Catholic. The Catholic Church, along with other private institutions, presents a challenge to the governments to raise the level of education. The Nigerian Bishop Gabriel 'Leke Abegunrin is convinced that education plays a prominent role in bringing about peace and justice. In our schools we have a curriculum that includes both religious and moral education. And of course, we also teach unity, we teach the students to avoid violence, we teach honesty. We grow in honesty, unity, and love of the country. That is what we try to establish, not just lectures for physics or science [] but also human education: how to live in peace, how to work to love our country, and how to contribute to the development of the country.
