This is a clip of the ether dome on the top floor of the oldest section of the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA. In this operating theater, an anesthetic was first successfully used in 1846 opening the door for modern surgery. Also featured is an Egyptian mummy in the dome and the sponge soaked in ether used in the original surgery in 1846.

A viewer informs me: "I work at the MGH - I loved your ether dome video. One problem though - the etherdome was not the first place that surgery was performed with anesthethia (spelling?) - instead, it was the first place that was publicized, or allowed public to watch/media."
