William Shakespeare's "The Tragedy of Richard the Third", Act 1, scene 2 (Anne's entrance), lines 1-113

She mourns over her father in law's body as the killer tries to woo her! Olivier has Richard do it over her husband's body in his version

This extract actually begins at the end of the preceeding scene, line 136 (Hastings's "The King is sickly, weak, and melancholy")

Ron Cook ... Richard III
Zoë Wanamaker ... Lady Anne
Paul Jesson ... George, Duke of Clarence

Zoë Wanamaker (born 1949) is indeed the daughter of Sam, named after his famous father of Chicago merchandising fame. Sam (1919--1993) was an actor and director who decided to stay in England after he got blacklisted by the HUAC. Zoë was born a US citizen, and remains one, but grew up thoroughly British. She has won many awards for her acting.

Among the first things Sam Wanamaker did after his arrival in London (1949) was to visit the site of the Shakespeare's old Globe Theatre. All he found was a plaque on the wall of a brewery commemorating the site. He later became instrumental in spearheading a drive to rebuilt and re-create the Globe Theatre. He lived long enough to see the first play performed on it's stage, but died before the Globe was finished.

One of the glories of this TV version of "Richard III", besides much fine acting, is that it is presented virtually uncut--a rarity for this play. Running length is 3 hours and 48 minutes! That is an extra burden for Zoë Wanamaker, as she suffers from dyslexia, but I'm sure she relished the opportunity to enact this role.

  • @n0iwont - only my opinion anyway.

  • @IrishEyes1989... No, beauty is not in the eye of the beholder. The measure of beauty is the same now as it always was and the measure doesn't/won't change. She is not beautiful. Some people may find her face appealing, but that does not mean that she can be termed beautiful. ( Poor ZW ) I'm truly not trying to goad or be horrible. And as for someone stating that she's the most beautiful woman who has ever lived - well.......lol

  • @n0iwont @n0iwont Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I for one think Zoe certainly is beautiful. Just because she doesn't look like a supermodel doesn't mean she isn't beautiful. The standards for beauty in modern society are shallow and unrealistic. Zoe has lovely features - gorgeous bone structure, an adorably upturned nose, and beautiful, expressive eyes.

  • @JackGraham999 ...o for goodness sake ZW is not beautiful - she has an ODD face indeed.

  • @NielasHellsing

Then she gets seduced by him.

    That's some real girlpower there.

  • "A horse, a horse, my kingdom for a horse!
