Television commercial for the popular household cleaner, Spic and Span. Invented by two Saginaw, Michigan housewives, Elizabeth MacDonald and Naomi Stenglein, in 1933, the powdered cleanser was equal parts of ground-up glue, sodium carbonate, and trisodium phosphate. In 1945, Proctor and Gamble purchased the brand for 1.9 million dollars. Baby Boomers may remember the product for its two decade-long sponsorship of the long-running television "soap opera", SEARCH FOR TOMORROW.
After changing ownerships twice since 2001, a reformulated Spic and Span is now distributed domestically by Prestige Brands.
