The Civil Wars - "Barton Hollow": SXSW 2011 Showcasing Artist

In some ways, music doesn't get much more modest or minimalist than it is in the hands of The Civil Wars, a duo comprised of California-to-Nashville transplant Joy Williams and her Alabaman partner, John Paul White. They travel without a backup band, and on their first full-length album, Barton Hollow, the bare-bones live arrangements that fans hear on the road are fleshed out with just the barest of acoustic accoutrements. Each song is an intimate conversation, and no third wheels or dinner-party chatter are going to interrupt that gorgeous, haunting hush.

Listening to this song I feel like I should be in an old western movie in full gear wearing a cowboy hat, with a lasso in hand, gun hanging from the side, and cowboy boots on hearing those spurs cling as I'm walking down a dirt road, then I stop to say "GO HEAD, MAKE MY DAY!"

what a horrible, idiotic thing to say. i checked your stuff out- it appears that you are the one making the false claims. while it is common knowledge that there are plenty of unsigned bands that are wonderful, but not being on a record label has little to do with musical talent as it has to do with personality and marketability to the masses. without that, not much happens. which i'm guessing that's where you are now- in limbo with the other "real" artists...

They are the only "country" music I will listen to (although I guess "The king is Dead" decemberists' album is a bit country too).
