The 'Ring is my favourite track, but it is fearsome, full of blind corners, blind brows, you have to know where you are going. If you do but get stuck behind those who don't it is very difficult to get past in a car which handles well but has less power than the opposition. The complete lap, which sadly I can only show 10 minutes of due to the restrictions of YouTube, was about 40 seconds slower then my qualifying lap.

I'll be back again next year...

  • Thoroughly enjoyable, thanks for uploading. Beautifully fluid driving.

I assume the B is warmed up to some extent? The MkI I used to have would have run into the redline well before these speeds.

  • James - You can keep the compliments coming regarding the fluid driving style all day long...! Thank you. The B engine is "standard" - to the MGOC race spec, it produced 111bhp. Max speed was not great; with the 4.1 diff I think it tops out at about 100/105mph along the straight at about 5,700 rpm after a long time getting there - which is why everything I had managed to get past previously started to come by me again. I do know the track reasonably well, this was my third race there.

  • Wow!!! Very nice footage!!! I really enjoyed driving with you ;) Thanks for sharing. I really appreciate this! And i feel sorry for your race-over.

By the way: You guys are real gentlemen-drivers. That makes it so graceful. And i feel sorry for your race-over. So Rock on!

  • Many thanks; glad you enjoyed it - I did too until I had to stop... As we have to pay for our own bodywork and other repairs most of the drivers try not to run into each other - there are the odd exception to this rule but you get to know who is who and stay clear, not let them through of course, they are usually the slower, more erratic ones... Let's hope I will be out these next year, fingers crossed.

  • I remember your going past me as though I was standing still; my only consolation was that I managed to post a quicker qualifying time than you... Power isn't everything you know! For me it wasn't too great a weekend, we spent weeks getting the car ready only for the engine to give up at the end of the first lap in the first race, but the tragic accident on the second lap was so sad. I hadn't realised what had happened until I saw comments posted elsewhere several days later. See you next year!

  • Yeah sure, it is expensive to travel from GB to Germany and race at the Nordschleife with a car you cannot buy from the next door-store, because its production ended in 1973. You neeed parts to bring with you, and you will have to hope nothing brakes. Especially not one of theese parts, you simply don´t have! Concerning the way you have to know the track very well, because it is the longest and hardest race-track ever build. So stay away from the erratic ones, and good luck and fingers crossed!

  • 32 seconds in......thats me on the right :-)

Nice video, great weekend wasn't it?

  • brilliant video, i was there in august but unfortunately my MGB had to remain home as i blew the engine.
