Mensa Brilliant

To promote the Mensa Brilliant event a brief video was made. It explains a bit about the origin of Mensa, what we are doing and where we are going. You are encouraged to show this video on your national Mensa Brilliant event to all the members, worldwide.

Mensa was founded 1st October 1946 in the United Kingdom. Over the past years Mensa has established national groups in many, many countries. There are almost 120,000 members worldwide and the membership is still growing.

There have been quite a few accomplishments, the purpose of Mensa is defined in the international Constitution. Accomplishments were in the area of identifying and fostering intelligence for the benefit of humanity; in encouraging research into the nature, characteristics and uses of intelligence; and in the area of providing a stimulating intellectual and social environment for its members. And today the members are still working hard on these three defined purposes, there is still a long,... and ....oh so interessting way to go !

The pace of working on these three purposes of Mensa has gone up over the past years. The electronic communication tools will continue to have an impact on the way we operate and on the speed of our progress. And this impact will only increase the coming years. We face the challenge to channel these new dynamics, and this will result in new accomplishments that can be reached in a shorter timeframe.

The next generations Mensans are coming : the high-speed Mensans are coming !

Mensa is a global organization and its members speak many languages. The narrator is from the Netherlands and is the current chair of Mensa International. He speaks much better English than I can communicate with in Dutch. I'm a life member of American Mensa and thought this was a great representation of Mensa, as well as a fitting tribute for its 65th anniversary.

What a boring and annoying video! Especially the narrator. He sounds as if he just got his tongue pierced yesterday or something like that. My a ... Oh and by definition, Mensa is the upper 2% of the IQ. In reality, I often jokingly say (being myself a Mensan), only the lower 2% of that upper 2% are daft enough to actually join and stay. :P

Well, I joined Mensa when I was an out of control, young man with no direction and no accomplishments under my belt. Later I became a PhD, the author of five books and a self made wealthy enough person with a great job so I guess there must be something to having a high IQ.

It's misleading - it's not a society for the 'highly gifted' - it's a society for people who pass an IQ test - an outdated one, under conditions which are suspect.
