My cat was just diagnosed with Hepatic Lipidosis and HATES his injections. Sometimes he will let me do it without a fight in the morning, but later in the day he just doesn't want it. I try to keep the needle in as long as i can, but sometimes he doesn't get his full 100ml of fluid. Is it that big of a deal or will it not make too much of a difference? He definately improved from last week from taking his pills and oral fluids, but hates the SQ injections.

@ccm800 You should always aspirate before giving the injection... once you insert your needle you should aspirate and IF you see blood in the hub of the syringe you need to re-direct your needle meaning DO NOT take the whole needle out because you'll contaminate and you'll have to change needle.. if you see blood take a little bit of the needle out and move it to another side and aspirate again. NOW if you see no blood then you can inject the cat... hope this info helps...

@AngeNZVetNurse Thanks so much - giving her the injection seemed better today! My partner is giving the injections right now - but I need to man up and do them as well. We watched together and did it JUST like you and she seemed much less traumatized.

How does drawing back on the plunger assure that I am in the right place? What am I Looking for? Are you referring to the resistance?

awesome, thanks!
Hi ya, by drawing back on plunger you are looking to get the resistance, if you get a bubble of air you may have gone out the other side:-) It also enables you to check if you get blood. Which is obviously not where you want to be when giving a sub cutaneous injection! Cheers for your questions:-)
