@jordnas Thanks for clearing that up, I miscounted the 20-pin socket. That's a good idea using one for the layers. Thanks for the fast reply.

Very nice, I cound't tell if you were using shift registers to control the LEDs. I counted the pinout on the TI's picture am I wrong or does the MSP430 launchpad have 14 I/O pins?

@LFR4 You're wrong, it has 14 pins in total. Only 6 of them are I/O-pins. I infact used three shift registers for this cube. Two for the columns and one for the layers.
