  • Very sad day for a lot of people. Me being American, I don't know much about Pakistani Politics but Mrs Bhutto spoke with passion and aimed for a free nation. In life or death, this woman has my vote....respectfully.

  • I am going to hope that you are just making an extremely sarcastic remark. If not, and that is what you truly believe, then I am more than happy to spend the rest of eternity rotting in hell then ever having to beleive what you beleive or be around people like you.

but PAKISTAN TODAY is a colony for outside interests...and I blame VICEROY MUSHARRAF AND THE TOP TIER OF THE GENERALS....I dont fear any political party, at the end of the day parties are held accounatable by voters...BUT WHO WILL HOLD INTO ACCOUNT THE TOPTIER OF THE GENERALS....fuck the generals....We need a Khomenei to get rid of such sell outs....

  • ukhan19, that was a very good explanation. i was always bothered by that verse but it makes sense now. maxwedge12000, ur a disgrace to christians. get a life.

  • please go to youtube and search for drshafique

  • Ever see a woman with pms?

  • If you really want to know what the quran and hadith say go to prophetofdoom.

  • As is clear from other Quranic verses such as

The good deed and the evil deed are not equal. Repel [the evil deed] with one that is better. Then truly the one, between you and he is enmity, shall become as a bosom friend. [41:34]

  • "Do not take Christians and Jews as your protectors. They are protectors to one another...."

This is the message of the verse, and the appropriateness of this understanding is supported not only by the historical context for its revelation but also by the fact that nowhere does the Quran oppose simple kindness between peoples.

  • The verse was also revealed before many critical battles between the Muslims and Makkan tribes. Outnumbered, many Muslims sought alliances with the Jewish tribes in Medina (who themselves were in good terms with the mekkans) and the Arab Christian tribes. Keeping all these historical issues in mind, it becomes obvious that the translation of awliya' as "friends" is wrong and that it should be rendered as "protectors" or "guardians" in the strict military sense of these terms.

  • But given the time the verse was revealed, it becomes somewhat suspect, as the verse was revealed at a time where Muslims were being persecuted during their pilgrimage to Makkah and Medina (cities with holy significance for Muslims) by numerous tribes residing in Makkah, leaving the Muslims vulnerable, and in need for outside help. It was around the time right after their pilgrimage, that the verse was revealed.
