Police Corruption in Arkansas (Drug Trafficking)

5 Officers from the West Helena Police Department have been arrested along with 56 others in connection with a drug smuggling operation. 9 suspects are still at large. This was the end result of a four year investigation. The operation has been dubbed, "Delta Blues." The FBI and Arkansas National Guard cordoned off the town creating choke points to recover narcotics and wanted personnel. 1 Police Officer was shot and suffers from nonlethal wounds. The 70 suspects are accused of smuggling large amounts of marijuana, cocaine and crack cocaine across state lines. Investigators say more arrests may come. Over 800 government authorities have converged on the small town in eastern Arkansas. West Helena, Arkansas is 75 miles southwest of Memphis, Tennessee.

One of the suspects was booked into the Pulaski county jail. He is awaiting a hearing in Federal Court in Little Rock. He is accused of being in possession of 10 kilograms of cocaine, 220 pounds of marijuana.
