My first visit to the Great Central Railway for their Winter Steam Gala, the theme for the gala was Banbury in the late 1950's so the gala featured mainly GWR locos but also had locos from all of the 'Big Four' railway companies.

The full line up of locos included:

- ex-GWR 3700 Class 4-4-0 no.3717 'City Of Truro'
- ex-GWR 1400 Class 0-4-2T no.1450
- ex-GWR 2884 Class 2-8-0 no.3850
- ex-GWR 4900 Class 'Hall' 4-6-0 no.4953 'Pitchford Hall'
- ex-GWR 4575 Class 2-6-2T no.5526
- ex-LMS Black 5 4-6-0 no.45305 'Alderman A.E. Draper'
- ex-SR N15 Class 4-6-0 no.30777 'Sir Lamiel'
- ex-LNER K4 Class 2-6-0 no.61994 'The Great Marquess'

Shots include:

- 4953 moving through Loughborough station then seen from the road bridge backing onto her train to form a double header with 61994
- 4953 & 61994 seen departing Loughborough bound for Leicester
- Seen from the coach window, 4953 passes through Rothley station on wind cutters (I had hoped to get off the train at Leicester to do some filming but due to the train being jam packed, I couldn't get out)
- Back at Loughborough, the wind cutters are seen again as 30777 departs with them for Leicester (Not the best of shots but I thought I'd leave it in)
- 3717 & 61994 are seen arriving at Loughborough
- Now at Quorn, 1450 is seen arriving and then departing on a two coach local
- 45305 leaving Quorn to Loughborough light engine
- 3850 bringing the wind cutters into the station and shunting them into the siding
- 61994 blasts through Quorn on a spectacular run of the evening TPO whilst 3850 backs off the wind cutters into the station

Filmed on a Panasonic HS60 HD Camcorder

  • A great collection of clips on both parts 1 and 2 - great work!

  • @churchward82c thanks mate =) What a great gala it was

  • You would have thought that the hi-vis jacket would have stepped back out of your shot at 12:44, wouldn't you? You've got to smile at these guys LOL

  • @churchward82c yeah lol still, could've been worse, he could've been stood right in front of the lens lol

  • Excellent stuff, parts one and two. Just realised looking back through your videos that you also did another fave of mine, the Hall and Castle through Swindon 11 months ago. Also I noticed that there was no lining out on the Hall just plain green.

  • @2010ditta thanks very much =) I should be seeing those two through Swindon again later this year. Also, 4953 is quite odd as her tender has G.W. i.e. Great Western on the side but she has BR number and shed plates on her smokebox door.
