Orders Of And Pertaining To Mysterion Determinations is an original electronic experimental composition composed entirely by the Linux MultiMedia Studio (LMMS). LMMS provides a software environment whereby composers can create rhythms, basslines and melodic structures by loops and sequences, positioning them on the Song-Editor timeline, applying effects, then exporting part or complete songs in WAV format for further mixing or editing. LMMS is very easy to use, can create complex compositions from component parts, and it is freeware - free for composers to use and experiment with patterns and sequences. For this composition however, the final mix was made up to two re-tuned melodic sequences spliced together within Adobe Audition. The first composition comprised of nine tracks of instruments and rhythms. A rhythm track features a loop of snares, shakers and percussion with deep reverb on some instruments. The main melody line has various synthesizer plug-in sequences and three combinations of the ZynAddSubFX synthesizer, kick drum and low oscillator bass. The next track is an organ melody using the Organic Oscillator Bank with Hall reverb. A choral choir-like sequences was created from a string sample. The Wind Chimes sample plays at certain intervals with reverb and pan modulation to create a sense of immersion. The first percussion loop contains various ringings, dial tones, bubbles and a gunshot sample processed with reverb. Percussion 2 loop contained various snares, shakers, hi hat, and ride cymbal sounds to create a steamy popping loop rhythm. The third percussion loop contained various re-pitched snares, wood percussion, crash cymbal and claps. The rhythm loop seems to "talk" as the various rhythm pitches combine with one another. The last track is an ethereal violin pizzicato sample fed through a long reverb creating a heavenly plucked melody, slightly melancholy in feel. The various instrument and rhythm elements were positioned in the Song-Editor timeline to create variety and interest. Each track was exported as a separate WAV file for further mixing. The second version of the composition has the same geometric structure as the first, except certain elements have been re-pitched. The Melody Line 1 now has a strange humourous twist to the sequence. The organ tone is higher in pitch, as to the Bell Choir sample. The percussion tracks remain the same, but the violin pizzicato is different. Two new tracks are added - various up-tempo disco-like claps and electro bassline loop; and a loop consisting of sound effects of high-frequency chirps, tweets and hits. The added and re-pitched tracks were exported and integrated into Adobe Audition where the melodic sequences consisted of two versions, the second version was pasted over a section of the first to facilitate the pitch change. An additional multiple random tone track loop was added afterwards to create a rhythmic ambience. In all, twelve tracks made up the final mix. The visuals are various video synthesis modulations, doubled and superimposed to create an optical wallpaper-like effect. The result is something very different, and unusual in compositional technique.
