My mom gave this to me and I'm going to see if it's any good. I planted an Early Girl plant in 100% organic compost and nothing else...all I had at the time.

I will eventually hang it higher, of course.

  • Hiya, any chance you can tell us who's singing the tune that playing with this video

  • Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash, I believe.

  • just wondering, how did it turn out?

  • It would have turned out okay but I left town for a week and my husband didn't water them. I live in Texas where it gets over 100 degrees in summer. They didn't make it. Before dieing they produced about 4 or 5 Early Girl tomatoes...If I ever do again, I'll use cherry tomatoes though.

  • you can also use 5 gallon buckets or the like, Lot cheaper. :)

  • I agree! :) I didn't buy this...It was a gift so not sure how expensive (or inexpensive) it was. If you can figure how to hang a five gallon bucket without killin' someone (assuming your talking about upside down tomatoes), more power to ya. I'm not handy like that at all. Thanks for your comment.

  • I bought one of the topsy turvey things and planted a roma tomato plant in it. Not too bad, but it needs daily watering. It did not grow better than the ones I placed in the garden. My neighbors use the 5 gal buckets. Looks okay, but I won't be doing it next year.

  • This spring I took a 3-liter soda bottle (99 cents), cut holes in it for hanging, filled it with potting soil, and planted 2 Tumbling Tom cherry tomato plants. Right now, 55 days after setting out 3-week-old plants, there are nearly 3 dozen tomatoes on them, and they're just turning red. The only drawback is that they need watering twice a day. For that reason alone, I recommend 3-liter bottles over 2-liter. . . . and grape soda over cola (lol).

  • You can easily make these with a 2 liter soda bottle, fill with soil, cut out the bottom, drill some small holes to hang it up with rope of some kind and then plant the seed in the bottles spout. Presto same thing works just as well.

  • My mum made one of those from a 2 litre pepsi bottle and some Styrofoam.
