Profiles in Editing - Akira Kurosawa

Kurosawa was not only a master filmmaker, but also a master editor. I learn something new every time I watch it, so I decided to make an analysis video of the final battle in "Seven Samurai".

I made this using Final Cut Pro and Apple Motion, along with a bit of Soundtrack Pro and Photoshop.

First off, I want to point out that this film was wonderful, I thoroughly enjoyed it; and anyone who says it's a masterpiece is absolutely correct.

But when I saw the film, I couldn't help but notice that all of the deaths were ridiculous. Nearly 10 bandits are killed by getting scraped in the chest; and 5 bandits die from a spear stabbing their ass. What a bunch of wimps.

Even one of the villagers gets a scrape and he thinks he's dying, but everyone scolds HIM for his sissy attitude.

Excellent job. Loved how you point out the various changes in editing & their effects. I love Kurosawa's films & always learn something new whenever I watch them.
