It's the girls against the boys.
If you go to http://supergroup.netfirms.com/index3.html you can vote for which band you think would make the better CD. The idea is for a TV show where these Supergroups record CD's and whichever band sells the most gets a million dollars for each of their favorite charities.
The Women Supergroup could have singer/songwriter/musicians like Sheryl Crow on bass, Bonnie Raitt on lead guitar, Melissa Etheridge on rhythm guitar, Caroline Corr (of the Corrs) on drums, Chrissie Hynde (of The Pretenders)on guitar, and Sarah McLachlan on piano.
The Men Supergroup could have singer/songwriter/musicians like John Rzeznik (of the Goo Goo Dolls) on guitar, Joe Walsh (of The Eagles) on lead guitar, Lenny Kravitz on guitar, Neil Peart (of Rush) on drums, Gregg Allman (of The Allman Brothers) on piano, and Mike Mills (of R.E.M.) on bass.
I was going to use Sheryl Crow's "Anything But Down", Bonnie Raitt's "Thing Called Love", Melissa Etheridge's "Like The Way I Do", The Corr's "Breathless", The Pretender's "Message of Love" and Sarah's "Sweet Surrender" but it's hard to get permission to use all these songs (even if this is for a charitable cause) so I used a rocking song by The Jennifer Jennings Band called "If I Ever Fall", who were kind enough to allow me to use their song for this video. You can get more information about them at www.thejenniferjenningsband.com
I was also going to use the Goo Goo Doll's "Slide", Joe Walsh's "Life's Been Good", Lenny Kravitz "Get Away", Rush's "Spirit of the Radio", Gregg Allman's "I'm No Angel", and R.E.M.'s "Texarkana" but once again couldn't get permission, so I used Dave Barrett's song "Scars", who was kind enough to give me permission to use his song for this charitable concept. You can get more info on his song at www.cdbaby.com/dbarrett

  • I had to copy and re-post all the old comments because YouTube removed the old video due to copyright issues with the songs I used. These new songs are with the approval of the artists: The Jennifer Jennings Band's song "If I Ever Fall" and Dave Barrett's song "Scars".

    Raitt vs. Walsh

I like the matchup of Raitt vs. Walsh on guitar because I heard a story of Walsh telling Raitt that she's pretty good for a girl, to which she responded by punching him in the stomach.

    So tough

Actually, Mclachlan and Crow are the only things that made it tough, but I had to go with the men. I mean, freaking Joe Walsh & Lenny Kravitz? Sorry, but no contest.

    mostly old and washed up

oh come on. How many of these guys were successful on their own. With the exception of Kravitz and oh yeah, Welsh and Allman have really soared up the charts lately. Sorry no contest here. Ladies hands down ! And don't underestimate that drummer just because of her good looks. The only weakness in this lineup would be Etheridge. Replace her with Liz Phair and they would be unstoppable.

  • As much as the women are great.... I still think there is no comparison to the men here.

    Supergroup

I'd love to give the women some support, but put Johnny Rzeznik on the ballot, and I'd have to support the men!

    Men vs. Ladies

The women are all immensely talented ladies, and all of them are great musicians. Melissa Etheridge has a soulful voice and a great guitarist. Sheryl Crow is beautiful and awesome, with a wonderful voice and a damn good guitar player, but I had to root for the men, who are also all immensely talented. Rzeznik has a wonderful voice, and a unique ability, Kravitz is a lot like Hendrix, with a modern spin. So its the men for me.
