Remember the good old days of being a kid---cracking open a comic book, reading the "pows" and "bangs" of the hero tousling with the villain? Exciting, because the mystery, the struggle, the battle (and having the superhero winning it), sure meant a lot for a kid. Swordbird, written by Nancy Yi Fan when she was twelve, really captures that hearty enthusiasm for a good ol' fantasy story of swashbuckling adventure. It's set in a world of dark forests, mist-capped mountains, with a hawk and his army against the woodbirds, cardinals and blue jays. Action juxtaposed with imagery and description, along an overall allegorical touch, does add interesting dimension to the tale. A savory morsel for all bookworms.

  • They dont respond to your emails. Theyre too busy to read through every little begging letter an aspiring writer sends them. I dont blame them, actually, there are too many people who think theyre good but theyre not. It sucks for the rest of us who actually have talent and are ready to be noticed for it :P

  • I'm 12 (: & in a middle of writting a story. My friend thinks it's great & which is why I'm afraid to publish it. IF my book ever becomes big...I don't think anyone would believe a 12 year old wrote it. Espeasilly with what I write about O.o. Plus, wouldn't people loose interest?

But, I am curious to read this book. Nancy seems so senseree. Wow. She's very lucky.

  • Pretty good book, and talented author! :) I'm writing a christian book, also about birds, and of course it's about God, the Creator of the universe. :)

  • @michelleppp12 I'm 11. I feel the same. I've always wanted to write, but I'm afraid if I try to publish, and fail, I might never want to again.

  • So Gloria Tesch isn't the world's youngest author?

    joking

  • @blackhawksarebest Good luck! :)

  • @michelleppp12 Me too. Im writing fantasy books which all are based in the same universe, but written in different perspectives. And I am writing them in Finnish, but I live in Luxembourg... How can I publish a book which is Finnish in Luxembourg!? Or can I communicate with a Finnish publisher by email, and (if I have luck) then he could publish it in Finland?

  • I am 13. I wrote and finished a book that has approximately 165,000 words in it. I've read Nancy Yi Fan's book, and I thought she used descriptive language but her story line was predictable.

Mine is not. I took 3 months to plan my story and then just under a year to write it. My book has been accepted for publication and will be put into print soon. I hope I have something like this on here. :) That is my dream.

  • @ScarletMovie i'm 13 and i wrote 94 000 words of a book :P

  • I was wondering what the email was that you sent it to?

  • I read this book in 5th grade. I didn't think like it- I was never a nature buff, but I loved it. I have always been an author, and Nancy has given me hope that maybe I can be like her. I wrote a story and typed it up and sent it to my family and friends. They said it was really good but I didn't think I was ready. I'm in 7th grade now, and considering publishing another book.
