Dare to Dream Differeent Contest - MicroSynthesizer

If we were picked as semi-finalists we would build a digital musical instrument. As a stand alone product, it will be a musical synthesizer made to be fun to play and easy to set up. The 3.5 inch touch screen will be the interface with the musician, both for playing and for setting up. While performing, the musician can change pitch by dragging his finger horizontally, and change sound intensity by dragging it vertically. A musical scale will be shown in the screen as a guide. Set up will be made with intuitive block programming. In addition, the 3 axis accelerometer will become a percussion sensor, to extend expression capabilities. As two synths or more get close to each other, the wireless XBee will gather all of them, deciding the roles of which one in the band. This will be very useful for group playing, from blues jam-sessions to orchestral performance. Besides, the XBee can send Midi-like messages to a DSP mainframe , turning every synth in a Midi controller. Our main design concern is the human interface we want it to be simple to set up, really fun to play, and easy to integrate in a band.
