Sounds very Mahavishnu Orchestra like. And I mean that in a Good way.

I never really appreciated just how great a guitarist Jeff Beck was until I saw him live back when this album came out and he went on tour to support it. Until seeing him play, I never saw someone shred the crap out of a guitar without using a pick. I wish he would play more of this kinda thing now instead of mostly slow blues. But I think he's a bit overlooked as one of the true innovative guitarists ever.

this song is a good example of why jeff beck is one of my all time favorite guitarists!
Props to narada michael warden on the drums as well.

OK, fair enough - well, I'll take suggestions on world-class metal guitarists, if you'd like offer any - expand my mind, that would be enjoyable :)

Sounds like you have not heard any top notch world class metal guitarists yet, although many of those are well schooled in Jazz and Classical. Unfortunately most metal guitarists are really one dimensional and are incapable of communicating different tones and textures and ideas to the listener.
I love Jeff Beck though and the whole blues jazz fusion thing, and probably first heard him doing this on Stanley Clarke's 1970s stuff. Really truly brilliant!

Beck's 2 solo LPs I bought brand new when they first came out...Turned this LED ZEP HEAD into a searcher of all things instrumental whether Jazz/Fusion/Etc....Just great material....

They should had used this as the theme song to Kiners Korner. A gem.
It's all about Narada Michael Warden.

Totally agreed with the other comments. To add one more dimension: Beck is the master of 'SPOTTED TONES' his chosen scale tones central to his utterly innovative shaping forces in the guitar's voice that no other man on earth can duplicate. But above all: he is among the greatest lyricist voices in music, using his finger on the string rather than a pick: this gives a variety of colors that always keeps us guessing: and with a smile on our face.
