Decorate cookies with your own homemade icing in three fast, easy steps.

You'll be surprised how easy it is to make your own frosting from scratch. In this video, you'll learn how to make homemade icing for decorating cookies. All it takes is three easy steps and a just a few ingredients: confectioner's sugar, milk, corn syrup, a little almond extract for flavor, and some food coloring. We'll show you how to combine the ingredients until smooth and glossy. From there, all that remains is to divide the icing into bowls and add different food colorings. You'll see two ways for frosting your cookies: painting with a brush and dipping. Making homemade icing isn't just simple, it's also inexpensive and free from preservatives.

  • can u use normal sugar and vanilla extract instead of almond and confectioners sugar

  • @MissSeraphicCharm You could substitute a differe flavored extract instead of Almond extract but for this type of creamy icing you need to use confectioner's sugar. If you use granulated sugar, the texture will not be the same.

  • Can i use butter insed of shortening?

  • @LarusTuTos Yes! You can substitute butter for shortening in cookie recipes on a 1 to 1 ratio. Butter usually makes cookies crisper throughout while shortening makes a cookie that is crisp on the edges and chewy in the middle. Cookies made with butter also spread out more, if you need to counteract that, add an additional egg

  • Indy,

Thank you for the comment. Most of the videos that we create are "How-to" videos, rather than recipe videos. Our goal is to show techniques, tips, and tricks that you can then apply to any recipe you choose. I hope that helps!

    Thanks, again!
