I am guessing the two black components are transformers? It takes so much power to power up those diode vacuum tubes, compared to using transistors. I know that many musicians argue with me about the sound quality, but I had witness the major problems with tueb amplifiers, especially traveling with a band. Vacuum tubes are stable when not being moved around so much.
I have a two-piece '48 SCOTT Model 800 Hi-Fi FM/AM/SW that includes a separate amplifier. The amp has about a dozen tubes alone. Needs restoration. Any collectors interested in it give me a shout at antmeeks60 at yahoo.com
I agree, paulj0557, that the sound pickup on your digital camera doesn't do justice to the quality of your Macs. It sounds fuzzy & distorted.

Listening to these amps through a cheap digital camera is like a ruby in a goats ass.

Saw a pair go for over $4,000 on 4-26-11 on ebay. Were these those two? Beautiful BTW.
I started this hobby way too late. So much to learn...
