Chris Harris provides a running commentary on the Porsche GT2 v Nissan GT-R comparison laps of the Nürburgring Nordschleife. If you like this video then you watch a video of each individual lap over on DR TV (http://www.drivers-republic.com/dr_tv/).

Then make sure you read the magazine feature 'The Truth' which examines the telemetry of each car and tells the story behind this feature.

  • I've really enjoyed all these comparisons to the GT-R, and don't really understand the negative reaction I get from pro's that are coaching drivers. Does anyone know if Nissan produces a factory race car, stripped out and lighter, roll cage, etc with the GT-R?

  • @jwiz4444 - Nissan informed us recently that it will produce a new 'track focused' variant of the latest 542 bhp 2013 GT-R but they have yet to announce its configuration. We might find out more during this week's Tokyo Motor Show, but we're expecting they will delete the rear seats, remove some of standard creature comforts and use fixed race bucket seats with a 3-point harness..

"I will never understand the ridiculous amount of arguing that has ensued over one car. Both are absolutely brutal and amazing. To each his own, despite weighing 3900lbs and having conventional brakes, the GTR performs admirably. The GT2 is a brute no doubt about it. But for its price point you have to give Nissan proper dues for creating one hell of a machine. I'll take one of each. "

  • Having driven many miles in both cars I was surprised just how similar they feel. Contrary to your expectation of the GT-R it feels lightweight and stripped out (like the GT2), the engines even behave similarly in response to the throttle, albeit with the GT2 pulling more strongly at the top-end.

You can't help coming away from such a comparison being impressed with how good the GT-R performs given that it is less than 'half' the price' of the GT2.

Any true enthusiast would enjoy both.

  • Dont forget that Nissan used the Porsche Turbo as a baseline for the GTR...so pretty much all the credit can go to Porsche for doing all the reseach for Nissan. Damn Japanese... cant make anything thier own these day, they just copy everyone else's idea's really...

Obviously the limiter was removed for the track.

  • Japanese and German = The best

  • there are two types of cars on this planet:

    1. Porsche/benz and bimmers

    2. the rest!

  • Anyone who has driven one or neither of the cars needs to think very carefully before commenting. because (like me) that means you know nothing about the difference between how both cars feel.

  • @vitaobatera 7:55 is not a horrible time...have you even been on nurburgring? Its not as fast as 7:2x records for these cars, but its very fast. These laps werent done by prof. drivers in cars they're allowed to destroy for the sake of setting a lap record.

  • @steflotti105 No, actually, technically the are both similar, 911 turbo and GTR that is. They're both 4WD, they're both turbocharged 6 cylinders, they both have dual cluth automatic gearboxes, both packed with technology. And the key point is, GTR came AFTER the 911 turbo. They're both amazing cars, but every reviewer says that GTR feels artificial and not fun, and 911's have always been known to be the most fun cars to drive. For every day use I'd get the GTR, but for tracks I'd go for GT2.

  • GT2 is with a price equivalent to about three GT-Rs.

  • @CitizenSlide : BS - They couldn't be more different. The GTR doesn't "feel" like anything, as the driver aids are doing all the work. You sir are full of it.

  • does this dude race cars? cause he seems like a pretty damn good driver
