Four victims have been taken to Frankford Torresdale Hospital. Three are PGW workers and one is a Philadelphia firefighter.
There are unconfirmed reports of one missing person.
The incident was first reported as a hazmat scene around 7:30 p.m., when a 12-inch high-pressure gas main ruptured.
Numerous repair workers responded to the call.
The explosion was reported about one hour later as crews were trying to repair the gas-main break. There may have been a PGW truck near the explosion scene.

  • @fmartinjr, Thanks for your statement a couple posts above; I agree wholeheartedly with you.

Btw, don't feed the trolls. :) That person keeps commenting here for negative attention (something's wrapped a bit too tightly inside his head).

  • @ctsskull I agree, but I was thinking of static electricity (they teach to death to be wary in Fuels Tech School--techs have to ground their equiptment & themselves prior to entering an active fueling area), or the cigarette in the ashtray --or the rude person tossing the butt out the window--or ruder one tossing the whole ashtray out the window, or the short that is under the dash, lose distributor cap, etc. You're right though. The combustion is internal. Thanx4 replying!

  • 2 fire fighters were hurt plus the 2 gas workers that died cause they were drilling for some reason
