Sunn O))) - Monoliths & Dimensions was released in 2009 on Southern Lord records. With Sunn O))) you know what your getting yourself into. Definitely for the listener that loves really dark, slow droning guitars with lots of different sounds that fill in a lot of empty space. Its hard to explain. Its not something that you listen to listen to, you really gotta just put it on and get lost in it. This record introduces a lot of orchestrated stuff to give it a more epic sound.

Drone is definitely not my favorite but this is still a great record and I'm glad i picked it up.

7/10

  • this is the only album i have by this band. i didn't delete it but i only listened to it once. everybody talks this band up so much and i don't really get why. i'm kind of sick of them without listening to them hehe. glad you like this record. nice review. but yeah, maybe the lack of drums is what makes it boring to me.

  • if they added some percussion I think would spice things up. But i can see why they dont.

  • sunn o))) has drums occasionally. or maybe that's earth. i know earth has drums. but the main reason why people listen to sunn o))) for the atmosphere and ambience. i didn't get it until i listened to sunn o))) on my ipod while walking in the woods. freaky stuff.

  • the stuff they did with Boris has drums. But the more I listen to it, the more i realize they aren't needed

  • your such a poker face

  • i have every sunn o))) album and this is definately one of the best. If you dont like it the first time, listen to it again. And that goes for every album of theirs. I feel like with every listen you come to appreciate their music more that you did the last time.

  • sweet review man. You should add a Cynic album to your list, i'm curious what you would say.

  • I have "Flight Of The Behemoth," "White 1," "White 2," "Black One," and "Monoliths & Dimensions". "Black One" is my favorite. Attila Csihar is a God amonst mortals.

  • More of an Engine Kid/Burning Witch fan, but Sunn 0))) is great too.

  • I didn't find the last track "Alice" the weakest. I found it the most powerful. Not in that evil way, but in that beautiful emotional way. That track is just plain beautiful. Very good review though!

  • Well, you completely forgot to mention the absolutely beautiful brass solo at the very end of the end of the album. The song was a tribute to Alice Coltrane, and it made the album for me.

  • Fuckin' A! Last year in Pontiac Michigan, in a tiny ass club. It was a religious experience for me.
