I first saw one when my mom was driving us home from Burger King (the one up the road from Hylan Plaza) and we saw one crossing the street. Then we had a few more encounters, and they left. But just YESTERDAY, I saw a group of them hanging out by the memorial near the SI Entrance to the Verrazano.
They freak me out o_o

Not A Joke! The Only "joke" is that these birds have more clout than we do. I have never seen such a mess in all my travels around this city. Molonaro and his cronies should be ashamed, this is a health hazard to the residents of this area. WE ARE SO Screwed!

Bullshit! They are protected and well fed. They are a dirty mess and should be removed but, the local politicos have caved in to the preservists and are doing more for the birds than the taxpayers. Another American town run by popularity seekers who would rather play it safe than do some real work in theri community! Staten Island, Just Like I Always Picture IT!

These turkeys perch on rooftops, light poles, fences. They sleep in the tall trees, flying down at dawn, feeding and mating during the day, then fly back up into the trees at dusk. They are still wild, and as you study them, Dave, you'll see they are quite predictable, and intelligible.I too have studied them to some degree, and know their sounds and cries.I'm on Crom....Keep up the great job you're doing.

I was unaware anyone was going out of their way to feed them ...That is unfortunate...As regards saving them i have been doing an impromptu survey and the flock has grown from the original 18 in 2001 to the present 60+ .As a group they are thriving. The flock is so large that it seem it may split.I find it interesting. I am empathetic to your turkey dropping
plight ..sorry ...regards

I dont feed them. They arrive uninvited every now and then .
Do you live in the staten island area ?
You seem very overtly concerned...Thanks for watching
