[Channel 4 News] Violence returns to Somalia 2008.04.21

Dozens are reported dead in renewed fighting between Islamist rebels and government forces in Mogadishu.

Weeks of relative calm in Mogadishu have been shattered by what has been called the worst bombardment of civilians for decades.

Streets echoed to the sound of mortar fire as Islamist-led rebel fighters in Somalia seized two more towns from government forces.

At least 85 people have been killed so far in battles between the insurgents and allied Ethiopian and Somali troops.

It followed a weekend of heavy fighting which rocked the capital, Mogadishu.

After clashes in one Islamist stronghold, a witness said she had seen dead bodies lying outside a mosque.

You don't have to change people in power. The power is always with the people that support the people in power and that is the population. Besides the rigging of voting systems and corruption, ordinary people like you and I contribute substantially to the election of people in power. People don't just make decisions they always base it on some sort of analytical reasoning. Your right, but I hope ur not suggesting that we accept the interim situation and not do anything about it. Where there is a will there is a way. We need a true definite intention and the mechanism will present itself.Question is what is our intention? Do we al hav the same definite intention/agenda? We need to stop pointing the finger @ splinter groups who r inquisitive,this will always b present,we cant change that,lets change what we can first,the mindset of our citizens - Smarten-up somalia

Did you noticed how the reporter didn't mention the 21 unarmed people that were killed inside the Mosque by the Ethiopian. I hate bbc, they're just like fox news. don't trust them. they don't mention the atrocities the Ethiopian army doing in somalia. They always terrorist this and terrorist that. This war is not about rebuilding somalia, is about wiping out all the somali people. and at the end ethiopia will take over somalia.

Ethiopia must leave Somalia. It is no longer about protecting Ethiopian Terrotories. IT is now only about murder and doing America's bidding. Somali is our Palestine and Ethiopia has been transformed from a bastion of black freedom to another Israel. To all Somalis out there, there are Ethiopians who sympathize with you... we are poor like you. It is not the Ethiopian people who is doing this, but the Ethiopian govrenment. I wish peace for Somalia and Ethiopia. I believe we can coexist.
