The early Chinese scripts were based on pictographs (pictures which resemble what they signify) and ideograms. The principles and techniques of Chinese calligraphy were well established at the time when oracle bone inscriptions (Gia Gu Wen, 甲骨文 ) were used.

The second character is 占 inside 囗, not 古 inside 囗 that makes 固 .
