Ingredients for Karashi Sumisoae
(serves 2)

100g Wakegi - Scallions (3.53 oz)
50g Boiled Octopus for Sashimi (1.76 oz)
1/2 Aburaage - Deep-Fried Thin Slice of Tofu
1/2 tbsp Sugar
1/2 tbsp Vinegar
1 tbsp Shiromiso - White Miso
1/2 tsp Karashi - Japanese Mustard

* Cooking the scallions in boiling water may cause them to burst wide open so please be careful when you are cooking them.

<材料>2人分
・わけぎ:1/2束(100g)
・茹でだこ(刺身用:50g
・油揚げ:1/2枚

・砂糖:大1/2
・酢:大1/2
・白みそ:大1
・練り辛子(和辛子):小1/2

  • I found out (thank you food network) that you can use cheap champagne to boil seafood; it's better if you add lemons, cilantro, or others to better the flavor. I've had octopus pasta in little Italy when we lived there (miss it so much) but i really want to try this! ENJOY!! :)

  • @Galaxiebaker Furthermore, the similarities between Cod and Shark actually depends on the type of shark. It can vary from white to dark pink in flesh, and in taste. The shark I tried in Australia was quite naturally oily and crumbly (the natural oils tend to nauseate me after a while when cooked) and it tasted a lot like swordfish, while cod is white and flaky and not as fatty. My mom used to batter smoked cod and fry it and it's delicious, better than fish fingers, that's for sure.

  • @Galaxiebaker Fresh well-prepared fish varies a lot in taste. Some groups of fish tend to taste similar (like shark and swordfish, or snapper family fish) but it's surprising how different fish can be. Only if it's badly cooked or old does the fishy taste tend to blur together. Though salmon is expensive, you can often find small fillets at a decent price, or you could buy it smoked which is my favourite way to eat it, personally. On toast or on a bagel. It's worth trying for sure.

  • Anyone know where I can find the Japanese mustard/karashi? The labeling is in Japanese and I bought wasabi by mistake!

  • @mrlifeofparty first question: It depends . If you are using wood cutting boards yes you will need a sharpener. (the are not expensive) second question:yes much more. Not a buy, an investment.
