@Robert43975 most post here are by roofers who have no clue as to how this product works, the biggest drawback for me is the weather and curing time as we have a lot of rain in or area.

Roof looks great weve got a bunch down,we use henrys emulsion and have found it to be consistent in quality. I do install most roofs with polyester matting though, unless its metal or foam.

The standard always was to let the roof sit for a month before applying the aluminum coating but I have found over my 30 years in the roofing field the coating stays on much better if you coat it right away before it has time to get dirty. I have roofs that have been aluminum coated for 15 years and all the coating is still adhered, you just need to use a really good fibered coating, Henry`s 555 is what I like to use. I have never put on fibered emultion before the aluminum but it makes sense.

well we spec out all kinds of roofing products,
unfortunately PVC and EPDM have dominated New England due to its lower costs. Nice to see a knowledgeable contractor.
Most likely your training was rooted from Western Colloid down in California. When we began restoration in a more volatile climate the specifications had to change to meet the needs. Unless the roof is failing at a great length or experiencing more than normal building movement a divorcing membrane like Poly or Glass-Ply is not typically needed. Adjusting your glass length, spray width or mixture variables can give the roof the extended life the building owner is looking for.

There are three types of emulsion instability: flocculation, where the particles form clumps; creaming, where the particles concentrate towards the surface (or bottom, depending on the relative density of the two phases) of the mixture while staying separated; and breaking and coalescence where the particles coalesce and form a layer of liquid.

Thanks Flatroof for the input, but you are going to have to be more specific with what it is that you are trying to say. I would like to address your comment or thought, could you please elaborate so it makes more sense. The terminology is easy to understand, just not what you are trying to convey. It sounds to me like you are pointing out issues that can sometimes happen during the manufacturing of the emulsion which is easily discovered once it comes out of the gun.

in this video, where you are spraying around the blower. do you turn down your ball valve, say half way to get it to look like it's barely coming out or is this how it sprays all the time? it looks like you have better control with the small pattern in tight spots, then full throttle in the field area.

Sorry socalmerc for the late response, I have been very busy bidding. It seems this year is going to be another great one.
There are two valves on the gun, one that runs air and the other the emulsion. He can adjust the output with a simple flick of his wrist. It's very difficult to do it and make it look as easy as does, but he can adjust the amount of material to perfectly blend the mixture to suite the need. I love watching this stuff go down.
Summers commin, keep sprayin socal ;)

I`m not sure about spray on roofing. I think if you would have nailed down a fiberglass base sheet and torched on a smooth modified and coated it with fibered aluminum roof coating you would have a much better roof.

Hirade61, you are almost on the right track. If a person did what you suggested, all I would add is one ingredient to make your spec perfect.
After the brand new torch down roof was installed it is always best to let the roof sit a week or two before to let the material cure. Afterwards a maintenance coat 6/1of fiberglass emulsion over the new roof before the silver coat would make the roof last 2 to even 3 times its normal life expectancy. The added cost would only be about $0.70 per foot!
