  • alternate picking or down picking. Who gives a fuck. Its up to the individual. Music is music.

  • he is clif burton

  • 1. he doesnt down pick

    2. the whole opening riff is played on the low E string

  • @alecxg damn right! he only goes down pick all the vid, give him 3 of his "solos" like that and his hand will burn off xD

  • DOWN STROKES YOU COCK SUCKER!!

  • Damn...this video lied to me...on all occasions.

  • @Gibsonguitar4life what do you mean he needs to down pick? almost everything in this video is down picked. if anything he needs to start alternate picking.

  • @KilIEmAll I got that, but the thing is, you don't hit both E and A, you just hit E. There's no palm muted riff in Mater Of Puppets where you hit both E and A. This is also the case in most thrash metal songs, fast palm muted riffs are almost always played on a single string rather than two strings combined. The bottom line is; you only play the E string while palm muting, so you can make it sound the same...

  • @BurakFender I mean, down picking the E with the A gives it a heavier register. With an alternate pick you hit the A before the E slightly which results in a higher register. im not talking about individual strings.

  • @KilIEmAll I can even downpick G B and high E, that's what James does in the Master of Puppets interlude solo, there's no rule. And there's no "downpickers society", any guitar player can downpick if they feel it's necessary. By the way, you dont pick the A string during the riff in 0:57, nor in any other riff in this song, just E...
