  • My Dad had her in Boston all the time. She could pack the school. No one including the Clouds could come behind her. She turned the house out! That's where they got "dropped the house". Organ and guitar. After Heavy Load people started making for the door. This was a dangerous woman on an all star gospel event.

  • @revhcrayton I wish she could have recored live in the 60s

  • Madam Cooke, if she had to perform this song today, no one could touch her...for she could hold her own!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @bjoanstephens so true

  • When I was a pre-schooler in the 1950s, this was one of my favorite radio tunes played on radio station WDIA im Memphis, TN. I could never visualize her face with the voice. Thanks for the images of a beautiful lady with a beautiful voice.

  • Your wolcome they have a video of her on here the name of it is pray sometimes.

  • Songs like this brings back memories of my mom pressing my hair on Saturday nights for church on Sunday morning, while listening to either Ernie's Record Mart live from Nashville, or Randy's Records out of Memphis. I can appreciate some of the gospel artists of today, but THIS is real SOUL SEARING Gospel. Old skool at its absolute best!

  • a semi-soft voice....but powerfully effective!!!!!!!! Can you feel Diana Ross's voice....if you can feel Diana's voice, certainly you can feel Edna's voice!!!

  • @1957Hepcat ...although her voice is not loud or noisy, or ear jarring, it is yet MELLOW, AND MELODIOUS and calm. but filled with BURNING FIRE AND HOLY GHOST! Her voice brings tears to your eyes, instead of making you want to dance, or party....makes you feel like shouting. I too, would have love to have seen her in person....

  • @1957Hepcat ......I adore Dorothy Love Coates too.... However, when it comes to Madam Cooke, she had something very unique and special in her semi-soft voice tones that nobody else in the whole wide world could touch!!!! And I mean I really, really, really do adore Dorothy Loves Coate, she's my girl too.

  • Madam Cooke created an art to her singing style!

  • AWESOME! Without a doubt, she was THE BADDEST thing in her day, and if she had just one day to sing today (with the new technology) you'd have to wake up early in the morning to touch her!!! Hallelujah!!! Just listen to that awesome BASE singer in her background!!!!!!! What an awesome singing arrangement.....
