Im only 12 years old (turning 13 in 2 weels!) and I do hope that mankind can make it into space and within my lifetime but I hope that mankind is smart enough to wait until we mature. I want to work at CERN after I graduate and my goal is to make a brakethrough in Antimatter and Anti-atoms. But if I can I also want to work in the same field that Michio Kaku works in. I really do want to slip into a type 1 civilisation and soon.

Science and Engineering don't stand still. Historically, going from one decade to the next has been pretty stable. But now we have lots of competition. Easier to create a fission warhead than an Alzheimer's Cure? Just having a Weapon of Mass Destruction can make you an enemy of those who already have one? Can the modern world solely rely on diplomacy to safeguard people from such weapon attacks? An armament system that destroys ICBMs has a great deal of value; it would be defensive.
