@desvio2000 I think you missed the point I was trying to make back then. At the time when I posted it (if I remember correctly) a lot of people were saying "Animals shouldn't be pets" and stuff like that. Some animals are intelligent, and if they knew a life before captivity (say, a zoo chimpanzee) then of course it will want to be with its kind. But if a bird like Tui (and mine, before he died) was bred into captivity, then it really doesn't know life other than the one it has now.

@Ilovedarkchocolate pet dogs and cats ALSO DO NOT have freedom. Animals don't desire love as much as freedom... When you were young did you want to find a girlfriend, travel the world, and have fun, or stay at home with your mom who loves you your whole life? I guarantee you any animal is happier spending 24 hours with its mate/flock than the couple of hours we can give. You are worth much more than a bird though so I think its ok to own pets. Animals deserve basic happiness which you can give.

what a beauty! :)
Yeah but all soppy-hearted human morals aside, Tui seems to be having a great time.
Everyone assumes that animals think like humans... the bird won't even realise they are "missing out" on being chased by cats outside!

Birds do not think like humans. If a bird has been raised by a human in captivity, it does not know any better of how other birds live in the wild.
If you're saying no one is giving birds freedom by keeping them as pets, then you are also saying that no one gives their pet dogs freedom and that no one gives their pet cats freedom and that no one gives their pet fish freedom.
