You gotta right click the wolf if you want him to follow you around. When you right click again he sits there.

@shawnvmartin when i watched AntVenom's enderdragon series they wouldn't fight peaceful mobs he wasn't in hardcore maybe they did something in 1.0.0

Might be a mod causing the wolves to glitch, they attack other mobs for me. I know there has been talk in the forumthread for Zombe's modpack about wolf-problems.
