  • thank you for another vid! I want to make sure I got this straight, please clarify for my simple newbie mind, lol....

the blowing out pressure within my mouth decreases as my lips come closer together to reach Kan

& pressure decreases as my lips part wider to play the lower octaves.

less pressure + smaller lip parting = Kan

more pressure + wider lip parting = lower octaves

    is that accurate?

as usual, Thanks for your help Jon! & I agree with lotoneroblu, nice shak ;)

  • @frictionad Hello and you're welcome. Actually just reverse what you said, more pressure for Kan and less for Otsu. Thank you for the complement!

  • u r the beast Jon as always, beautiful Shakuhaci by the way!

  • @lotoneroblu Thank you :)

  • Thanks for adding another video. When I play the upper octave, it sounds out of tune. Do you think it's a symptom of my economy-priced flute, or do I just need to work on my technique a little more?

  • @thaflinger You're welcome. I'd have to play the flute to give you a definitive answer. If the 1st register Otsu is in tune than the 2nd register Kan should not be far off unless the flute is too wide or skinny.

  • exquisitely described! thanks!!!

  • Thanks for this very informative video. I will definitely be following you! Love and Chi!

  • Wonderful video Jon, thank you. Been working on Choshi and finding "Ha Ro" to be quite a challenging couplet causing a lot of 'warbling' back down to otsu. Your demonstration was very clear and falls in with what I've been experiencing on focus and pressure. Again, thank you.

  • I'll keep working on it. Thanks again!
