This is an adaptation of the Bulbous Buffont song in Lenape, an endangered language spoken by the Lenape Native Americans, who originally come from the northeast U.S. This video is meant to serve as a resource for students learning Lenape who want something more amusing and less purely educational to watch so that they can hear Lenape spoken and get into the groove of the language. It is adapted from an English sketch that was chosen for its wordplay and focus on the intrinsic beauty of some words and how they sound.
The video is not meant to be an accurate portrayal of the Lenape people. The characters are merely vehicles for showing off the silly and wonderful sounds of some lenape words.
I hope that this video will help raise awareness of Lenape and its value as a unique and special language. We had a lot of fun making it and with luck it will make others enjoy speaking and hearing Lenape as much as my classmates and I do.
If you want to know more about the Lenape people, go to http://www.delawaretribeofindians.nsn.us/ or the lenape talking dictionary, at http://www.talk-lenape.org/
