House Republicans Refuse to Allow Democrats to Speak on Floor

This morning, Speaker Pro Tempore Andy Harris, under orders from Speaker Boehner, refused to allow Congressman Jim Moran to speak on the floor and call for the payroll tax cut conference committee to get to work.

Instead, House Republicans introduced a resolution that would cause America to default on its debt and kill jobs, received a message from the Senate, and then immediately turned off the microphones and adjourned.




Over and over again, House Democrats have called for the conferees on the committee to come back to Washington and develop a long-term agreement to extend the payroll tax cut—but Republicans refused to listen.




When House Republicans return to town next week, let's hope they are finally ready to get to work ensuring 160 million Americans see a tax cut through the remainder of the year. We can't wait.

The fact is when representatives that we somewhat democractically elect refuse to work to resolve the problems that are occuring within this country everyone but the very rich seem to lose out. Anyone that goes out of their way to stop progress to resolve issues and work to keep up with the changes in the world is a threat to our democractic republic.
