The Palais Garnier, also known as the Opéra de Paris or Opéra Garnier, was constructed by Charles Garnier from 1861 to 1874 and is regarded as one of the architectural masterpieces of its time. The building (and the real life tragedy of the chandelier falling in 1896 and killing one person) was the inspiration for the 1910 Gaston Leroux novel "The Phantom of the Opera."

The entire building underwent a massive restoration from 1994 to 2006. This video was produced in 2008.

  • Yes, if you go during the day it is open for tourists for a small fee. Evenings they usually have performances.

  • It's the Canadian Cast recording featuring Colm Wilkinson

  • They do offer tours during the day before the evening performances. You will see everything that's in this video.

  • Beautiful and mysterious all the same.

  • I wish there could be an actual performance of The Phantom of the Opera inside the actual Opéra Garnier too...

  • Had no idea it was so pretty!

  • they should totally perform the play here

  • Was at the Opera House in 2005, No operas anymore, but concerts and ballets. Was able to get tickets for ballet, Truly memorable experience. French do not acknowledge the play or movie (Weber being English and all). Only thing in gift shop at all was an old dvd of the Phantom with Chaney. Across from Ritz and the Lafayette Depart;ment store. Reporduction in movie is done very well. Do go see it. Omaha, Nebraska

  • can we enter the Opera de Paris? It is opened for tourist?

  • Very nice. Brings back great memories though we were in the theater itself alone, quiet as a mouse in there, our guide said tourists normally did not see the theater. I have no idea of why we were the only ones in there.

  • what soundtrack is this? this sounds different compared to the london cast
