The female bonobo was looking at a picture of herself in a video camera viewer (which was turned backwards so she could see herself).
She is obviously looking at the viewer, rather than directly into the camera. This is because the camera viewer was to my left and she is quite definitly looking to the left at the viewer, rather than directly into the camera lens.
She at first shook her head at the bonobo in the camera's viewer. Then it appeared that she began to recognize herself (when she stuck her fingers in her mouth) and started making faces into the camera. She then pointed to her missing tooth several times. (She wasn't doing this behavior when not looking at the camera and would probably need to see herself in order to notice that her tooth was missing.) She seemed to have a sence of humor - some of her faces seemed amusing (a subjective feeling). Later a male threatoned her. He had looked at the camera viewer before she did, but did not understand what he saw. He seemed to sense that something was happening with the female that didn't happen with him. (Video by Scott at Cincinnati Ohio zoo.)

This is an interesting illustration; though it isn't proof there is plenty of other proof out there, so I have no problem believing what you say, that her interest in her missing tooth coincided with seeing it in the video of herself. Where did you take this? Was it at a zoo, a sanctuary? I am assuming these bonobos were in captivity.
