  • nobody bothered replacing them burned out bulbs? ;-)

  • Yes we do replace many of the bulbs if we have spares. Trust me, with that many bulbs its a full time job replacing them. You can spend hours going through them all and say an hour later you're guaranteed to have at least one or two out.

  • oh good, well I guess these are older type bulbs... maybe some day soon they come up with LED-lightbulbs that can fit the sockets in place... that will extend their shelf-life quite a bit

  • Yes, the electronics on the organ are from the 1960s when the organ was enlarged by Voigt so they are getting very tired and in need of attention.

To be honest I think that we will be forced to have all the bulbs replaced eventually as unfortunately these bulbs will soon be extinct in favour of energy saving ones.

  • Started volunteering at the SFC, playing the Wurlitzers etc .. just got onto doing the mechanical side of things, must say this organ is lovely ! some nice books in the back. Does the roll player still work on it ? noticed them last time I was down,

  • Hope they do. Would be a great shame indeed to be forced to spoil the character of the organ with modern lighting.

  • just give it some time... they now already make energy-saving bulbs that look like your regular old frosted light bulbs... before they made regular light-bulbs that were flickering like candles!

Soon you will have LED-lightbulbs that look just like the ones used here...

  • i think led bulbs woud take the historical feeling away

  • yes, that's right.

  • 1:27 The Main Street Electrical parade!

I've always wondered how this would sound on a Fair organ. Very nice.
