During the summer of 2006 there was a severe thunderstorm in my area, which knocked out the electrical grid, phone lines, cell phone towers, and other utilities. My home was in the middle of a 100 square mile blackout zone, with numerous other sized blackout zones throughout the county, lasting well over a week.

Living in a semi-rural area, most of my neighborhood has become used to such occurrences. The first night looked like a holiday weekend, with BBQ grills going, the smell of meat in the air, load music blaring, and neighbors inviting neighbors over to enjoy a feast.

I'm assuming a few thugs began to realize the law-abiding citizens would not be able to call the police for help. During the 3rd night of the power outage a few thugs decided to break into my home.

  • You know what? I never thought of that.

We just got hit by hurricane Irene and (in CT) there are still people without power. My father just got his power back on a few days ago. And now after watching your video i realize how many people left there homes and how many people stayed home alone in the dark.

Yeah, I am happy i just got my permit.

  • @GunzCoty Irene rolled through my area too and caused excessive flooding and numerous power outages. Fortunately the power was only out for 24 hours in my home and I was very well prepared for it. My gas generator, as do my neighbors', provide an excellent homing beacon for others to find. There were no problems during Irene, but I still carried a j-frame with me around the house.

  • I know what you did was the right move they could have robbed you or you could been hurt or dead. I just got my license and gun a day after my mother is aware of both. She is not to pleased with it but I hope that it never happens. But if I must I will open fire and drop them and perhaps she might understand why I got it.

  • @clutchx24 When I was 18 and bought my first rifle, my mom was not happy. When I turned 21 and bought my first handgun, my mom really wasn't happy. She was and still is afraid of firearms and tried to instill her fear into me over the years, but it never worked. Some people will never understand and you must do what you feel is right to protect yourself and your loved ones. Funny thing was when she heard a strange noise outside, her first response to my dad and I was, "Go get a gun!" Hmm....
