This is Tom Bowdler's gauge 1 coal-fired Shay locomotive. Taken on Sept 15/07 at Don Sauer's steam-up in Brockport N.Y., on Tom's portable layout. Thanks to Tom for running this wonderful Shay for us.

  • This is the first live upright-boiler scale model that I've encountered, probably based on Ephraim Shay's prototype as executed by Lima Machine Works. How much coal can fit the firebox of this miniature?

  • Greetings from Arkansas, Tom! It's good to see your smiling face again.

That's a great looking locomotive. I never graduated to coal fired locomotives so I'm still (occasionally) running the alcohol and Butane fired locomotives.

    Later,

    Trent
