Social realism of black street life in south central los angeles during the 1980's and early 1990's. Many contrasting binary opposites such as Success vs failure, crime vs clean, love vs hate, economical struggling and betrayal. All captured in a crime drama.
So while the film is not based on a true story, the events that occur depict what street life was really like in the 1980's south central LA.
Common misconception, film has nothing to do with gangs, though they are referenced
