I watched Elizabeth Edwards's funeral on C-SPAN today and this hymn was the final hymn as it was a request of Elizabeth's so I feel that her strongest impact on me was giving me an avenue to become familiar to this hymn...

I read that after Natalie Sleeth wrote this hymn (it's also anthem and can be played with handbells), her husband requested it to be sung at his funeral. I think I would like it sung at mine as well.

I was just introduced to this song yesterday. I have been asked to sing it at a memorial service for a lovely woman who has just gone HOME to be the her Savior. This was her favorite hymn. Thanks for helping me learn it.

Hi coachrv31. It has been an important hymn to my family as well. I sang it to my wife as she passed to the Lord four years ago. I've not been able to sing it since, but to listen to it sung is just as good. Quiet remembrace is a special thing. God Bless.

This is indeed a hymn of promise and was a favorite of both my wife and me. When she passed away a few years ago, this was the hymn we sang to conclude the memorial service. Though this was a sad moment for my family and me, we wanted to close the service with a positive message to all those who need the assurance that just as physical life comes to an end, life eternal begins. How beautifully sung were these words of assurance, indeed the "Hymn of Promise."
