In August 2011, Julien released his first LP 'Journey to Zero', a live recording of a concert held in May 2011, in the National Concert Hall in Dublin, with his band 'The Julien Colarossi Quartet' featuring Colarossi on guitar, Barry Donohue on electric bass, Matthew Halpin on tenor sax and Tommy Gray on drums. The album features three tunes written and arranged by Colarossi and another composition written by Kurt Rosenwinkel.

This recording reveals the many facets and diversity of Julien as a composer and as an improvising musician. Julien has been strongly influenced by the straight-ahead jazz of Louis Armstrong and Ben Webster, the bebop of Charlie Parker and Louis Stewart, the modal harmonies of Wayne Shorter and John Coltrane, the modern harmonies of Kurt Rosenwinkel and Brad Mehldau. But Julien's musical interests are not limited to jazz. He loves classical music and has an affinity for music that feels good eg. the R&B of Jill Scott, Robert Glasper's hip-hop, James Brown's funk, rock music from Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin as well as the reggae of Bob Marley and many many more.

Julien loves to compose for this group and enjoys experimenting with arrangements and with different instrumentation. He has a keen interest in identifying the spiritual nature of music and in reaching out and engaging as many people as possible, from young to old and people with different musical tastes.
