Denver could see $1 fine for marijuana possession

The Denver Marijuana Policy Review Panel appointed by Mayor John Hickenlooper recommended the city establish a $1 fine for marijuana possession, which would be the lowest fine for marijuana possession in the entire nation. City voters approved SAFER-led ballot measures in 2005 and 2007, calling for the removal of all penalties for adult marijuana possession and designating adult possession the city's lowest law enforcement priority. Since police have continued to cite Denver citizens under the state law, the Panel -- which is charged with implementing the "lowest priority" ordinance to the greatest extent possible -- has recommended the fine be reduce to the lowest possible amount to reflect its lowest priority status.
