As it examines the age-old question of Jewish identity, A People Chosen: Who is a Jew?, photographed and produced in present-day Israel, gives expression to the spirit Jewish people possess. The film centers on the intensive, continuing debate among governments and private sectors, both inside and outside Israel, over the role religion plays in identity. Not a propaganda film, it includes interviews that reveal a unique sense of Jewish identity in Orthodox Jews and atheists, sabras and Russian immigrants, shopkeepers and kibbutzniks. Produced by Herb Krosney. 57 minutes, color.
